OBERPLANITZING – A QUIET PART OF THE VILLAGE

You can meet people in peace and quiet far from the madding crowd. Where a wine farmer will put down his work and ask about the destination of your walk, chats with your hosts are natural“.

Houses with magnificent bay windows, villas with lovingly tended farm gardens, farmsteads with blazes of geraniums around their arched windows. A small chapel and a fountain gurgling away year after year. Entering the village from the north you are met by the ruins of the late-Gothic 'Georgturm', with a history that remains a puzzle to the present day. The small chapel in the village centre completes the rustic picture. In the middle there is a variety of bars and shops, from the upmarket, through to the creative or traditional. And all around there is lots of wonderful woodland, with waves of vineyards lying at its feet.

Nearby peace and quiet

For all those wishing to discover Kaltern, Eppan, the Überetsch valley – in short, the whole of the South Tyrol Wine Road - but who still care about peace and quiet on holiday, for those longing for an idyllic picturesque small village, the Kaltern district of Oberplanitzing is ideal. Car, bus or Kaltern shuttle service will take you to all the places you need to see in the South of South Tyrol in a few minutes, even to the capital Bozen, which may be glimpsed beyond the gently sloping vineyards.
